PMAC-Ports
Port Management Association of the Caribbean
The Port Management Association of the Caribbean
(P.M.A.C.) conducted its inaugural meeting in Antigua on
26th June 1998 having succeeded the Port Management
Association of the Eastern Caribbean (P.M.A.E.C.)
established on 16th May 1988.
The P.M.A.E.C., under the auspices of Novaport
International Consultants Limited (Canada), was originally
conceived as a forum where port managers, recognizing the
remarkably similar challenges faced, could seek consul and
freely discuss approaches and solutions.
However, driven by the need to forge closer regional ties in
response to various developments within the industry, the
Association has extended membership to the wider
Caribbean, having been reconstituted as the Port
Management Association of the Caribbean (P.M.A.C.).
Current membership includes the ports of; Anguilla, Antigua,
Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Montserrat,
Nevis, St. Christopher, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St.
Vincent.
The major aim of PMAC is to improve the proficiency of
member ports and the quality of services offered to their
users. In order to accomplish this objective, the main focus
is training accommodated by:
- an established fund and formal schedule to facilitate
workshops regarding subjects of interest identified by
periodic training surveys
- presentations on subjects of interest made by suitably
qualified speakers at the technical session of each
Annual General Meeting
In addition annual awards which require the collection and
comparison of port performance statistics, have proven to be
an outstanding incentive for improvement.
Whilst P.M.A.C. must keep abreast of developments within
the maritime industry, the Association is being challenged to
remain relevant by providing critical services to members.
This entails the sharing of experience, information and ideas,
training and development as well as lobbying, advocacy and
representation at governmental and multilateral levels.
P.M.A.C.’s Vision:
- to be respected as the main voice of member ports to
advise on port management and port operations matters
in the Caribbean.
- to facilitate further collaboration of as many of the
regional ports in the development of training, including
job exchange programs and sharing of human resources.
- to be a leader in the promotion of professionalism in
port administration within the region.
- to be a vehicle of integration for the development of a
uniform and sustainable philosophy regarding the
attainment of common objectives, within a framework of
service excellence.
- to facilitate appropriate training which best meets the
needs of member ports.
- to establish mutually beneficial association/alliance with
other industry players.
MISSION STATEMENT: To foster operational and financial efficiency, and to enhance the level of service to the mutual
benefit of Caribbean Ports and their stakeholders, through the sharing of experience, training, information and ideas.
