Conference Information

Brief Description

An island-country surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, being the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles and the fourth-largest island in the Caribbean, Jamaica lies about 145 kilometers south of Cuba and 191 kilometers west of Hispaniola. Rich and vibrant with its own unique history as an island known for sun, wood and water, Jamaica’s history is believed to have started with the Arawaks (Tainos), the first inhabitants, known largely for farming. They named the island Xaymaca – meaning “land of wood and water”. This is evident in the island’s lush topography of mountains, rainforests and reef-lined beaches. Many of its all-inclusive resorts are clustered in Montego Bay, with its British-colonial architecture, and Negril, known for its diving and snorkeling sites. Jamaica is famed as the birthplace of reggae music, and its capital Kingston is home to the Bob Marley Museum, dedicated to the famous singer.
Ocho Rios is a port town on the north coast of Jamaica. A former fishing village, it’s now a resort town with a cruise ship harbor and a busy bay beach that’s lined with hotels. The surrounding parish of Saint Ann is home to rainforest, rivers and waterfalls. Ocho Rios is also home to two (2) main attractions: Dunn’s River Falls, a terraced, 180m mountain waterfall with lagoon pools, surrounded by trees; and Mystic Mountain, an adventure park that features a bobsled, canopy zip line and other attractions to create a unique and memorable experience which inspires sustainable use of the environment and an appreciation of the local culture.
