Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Environmental Health and Safety Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Manager - Human Resource / Corporate Affairs, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for co-coordinating, promoting and advising the organisation on all aspects with regard to Health & Safety within the Port Authority. The Manager will also establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all requirements as it relates to Health & Safety are adhered to.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- v Promote health and safety within the entire organisation.
- v Ensure that the SVG Port Authority is compliant with health and safety requirements at the Port Authority.
- v Facilitate training sessions for all employees of the SVG Port Authority to ensure that they are up to date on all Health and Safety Legislations.
- v Provide assistance in the investigations of all work injuries, illnesses or dangerous events, accidents, and unsafe working condition.
- v Make recommendations for remedial actions where necessary and monitor implementations.
- v Ensure that all disasters are managed; hurricane and emergency plans are updated and relevant persons are aware of their responsibilities.
- v Manage the Health and Safety Department and serves as the head of the SVG Port Authority Health and Safety Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
MSc in Environmental Health & Safety or a related discipline Occupancy health and safety training in the following areas:
- Risk Management training
- OSHA marine training certification
- Construction site safety training
- Mechanic shop safety training
- At least five (5) years working experience in an Environmental Health and Safety field
CORE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- v Sound Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications – spreadsheets, word processing and database management.
- v Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, practices and guidelines
- v Knowledge of the Health and Safety policies of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Port Authority.
- v Knowledge of practices in safe cargo handling, equipment safety, mechanical and electrical workshop safety, construction safety, OSHA Marine Practices and guidelines,
- v Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- v Excellent Negotiation and problem solving skills.
- v Excellent leadership qualities and organizational skills.
