Port Management Association of the Caribbean 17th Annual General Meeting

pmac agm 2014The 17th Annual General Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (P.M.A.C.), hosted by the Port of St. Maarten during June 25 - 27, 2014 at the at the Westin St. Maarten, Dawn Beach, Resort and Spa, St. Maarten, was attended by a total of forty six (46) delegates representing twelve (12) member ports, six (6) Associate Members, and four (4) Observer organizations.

Member Ports included:

  1. Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority
  2. Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority
  3. Barbados Port Inc.
  4. Montserrat Port Authority
  5. Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority
  6. Port of St. Maarten
  7. Port of St. Martin
  8. Ports Authority of Turks and Caicos Islands
  9. St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority
  10. St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited
  11. St. Vincent and the Grenadines Port Authority
  12. Suriname Port Management Company

Associate Members represented:

  2. Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Inc.
  3. Caribbean Maritime Institute
  4. CEI.BA
  5. Eastern Designers Limited

The Meeting commenced with a strategic session in the afternoon of the first day which addressed the following matters:

  1. Achieving goals with public relations, during which the concept of the “Portside Caribbean” publication was discussed, and adopted as the official magazine of PMAC
  2. Inter-island LCL initiative as proposed by Tropical Shipping LLC
  3. Specific matters of interest to individual members
  4. Strategic Committees’ deliberations – election of chairmen and formulation of action plans

The deliberations of the second day focused on administrative and reporting activities including presentation and discussion of the annual Financial Statement and Budget, Associate Members Report, Executive Report, Training Report and individual member’s Country Reports.

Suriname Port Management Company graciously agreed to host the eighteenth Annual General Meeting of PMAC during June, 2015.

Technical sessions conducted on the third day were very informative and included the following topics and presenters:

  • The Evolution of Cruise Tourism and Its Impact on Cruise and Cargo

        Operations - Mark Mingo, Chief Executive Officer, St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies  

  • Sustainable Harbor Development through Holistic EIA and Environmental Monitoring and Management Plans - Jesper Goodley Dannisøe, Senior Project Manager, DHI
  • Competency Based Training and Certification of Dockworkers – Paul Puckerin, Senior Technical Officer, TVET Council (Barbados); Osric Forrest, Director, School of Advanced Skills, Caribbean Maritime Institute; Glenn Roach, Manager, Quality Assurance, Barbados Port Inc.
  • Automation of St Maarten Harbour – Rob Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Brommert, Chief Operations Officer, IT Partners
  • Electronic Freight Exchange Platform for Shipping in the Caribbean and Latin America - Sabine Bajazet, Communication and External Affairs Manager, CEI.BA
  • Sydney Harbour Channel Dredging Project- Dan MacDonald, Senior Project Manager, CBCL Limited

The Meeting concluded with the Awards Dinner during which the following awards were presented:

Montserrat Port Authority – for the most improved port performance 2012 – 2013.

The Board, Management and Staff of the Port of St. Maarten, is to be commended for the warm hospitality which ensured the safety, comfort and enjoyment of attendees during their brief stay.

In addition, sincere appreciation is expressed to the Port of St. Martin for a wonderful evening of fine dining and entertainment, and to our presenters for the interesting and informative technical sessions provided.

In conclusion, the valuable input of delegates contributed to the usual high standard of deliberation, and ultimately, a very productive and enjoyable Annual General Meeting.
