CSA and PMAC Host Customs, Terminal and Port Agency Seminar

The Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC) was appreciatively accepted the kind invitation of its Associate Member, the Caribbean Shipping Association, to   partner in the sponsorship of a two (2) day Customs, Terminal and Port Agency Seminar, conducted in Barbados during July 24 -25, 2014.

The well received workshop capably hosted by the Shipping Association of Barbados, and skillfully instructed by Dr. Fritz Pinnock and Dr. Ibrahim Ajagunna of the Caribbean Maritime Institute, included such topics as the role of Ship Agents, Terminal Operators and Customs Brokers and Officers; the importance of e-Commerce in Customs, terminal operations and ship agency; scale and technology - fundamental forces driving the global shipping industry; challenges of the changing shipping environment;  commercial relationships and issues relating to Customs, ports and ship agencies, and major legislative changes facing the global shipping industry.

The successful training initiative, attended by twenty eight (28) participants including twelve (12) representatives of eight (8) PMAC member ports, embodies the first collaborative effort of the CSA and PMAC to strengthen cooperation, and enhance the effectiveness of both organizations in representing the interests of members. In this instance, by provision of relevant training designed to maximize the competencies of employees.
