Minister of Science, Energy and Technology visits the Caribbean Maritime Institute

Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Dr. Hon. Andrew Wheatley visited CMI on Friday, August 19, 2016 for a brief tour of the campus and to discuss possible projects related to energy reduction and efficiency, in which the CMI would be a main stakeholder.

The CMI, having spearheaded many projects with national significance, has declared its dominance in energy related applied research and consultancy and stands ready with the requisite competence to meet the needs of the country through partnerships. While on campus, he visited the engine room simulators, the bridge simulator, the crane simulators and the alternative energy system. The acquisition of these facilities were funded by the Universal Service Fund, which is a subject under the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology.

The Minister is photographed above in the engineer room simulator with one of his Advisors Ms. Camille Buchanan and members of the CMI family: from (L-R) Fredrick Whyte from the Research and Development Unit, Dr. Fritz Pinnock, Executive Director, and Milton Cassie, Marine Engineering Lecturer.
