The eighteenth Annual General Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean, conducted in Suriname, during June 17 - 19, 2015 was thus far the Association’s largest. In attendance were eighty-three delegates, including representatives of the Association of Caribbean States, Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, twelve member ports, ten associate member, three exhibitor, three observer, as well as other foreign and local, maritime industry organizations.


In addition to discussion of key issues by members, the strategic session of the first day included presentations regarding the proposed initiative for the free circulation of goods in the OECS economic union, implementation of a single port operating system, and PLIPDECO’s less than container load (LCL) export service.

The deliberations of the second day focused on administrative and reporting activities including presentation and discussion of the annual Financial Statement and Budget, associate member, executive, training, and individual member country reports, as well as the election of executive officers.

The technical session of the final day, which followed an evening during which participants were treated to a memorable experience of culturally diverse Surinamese cuisine and entertainment, consisted of well prepared and delivered presentations of topics including public private partnership as a key to sustainable port development, seaport tariffs in the Caribbean, ports in the IT revolution, crisis management, and port and marine terminal indemnities and liabilities.

The meeting concluded with the Awards Dinner during which new membership of the Port of French Guiana, and associate membership of IT Partner BV, CBCL Consulting Engineers Ltd., and THB International Inc., as well as local sponsors, Integra Port Services N.V. / DP World, VSH United, and Traymore N.V., were acknowledged.

However, the honour of the evening’s main event went to Barbados Port Inc. which was awarded the Novaport Cup for the most improved port performance in 2013 - 2014.

The high standard of deliberations to which delegates enthusiastically contributed, the interesting and informative technical presentations, and the warm hospitality of host, the Suriname Port Management Company, ensured a very enjoyable and productive meeting.

Accordingly, member, associate, and other delegates look forward to the nineteenth Annual General Meeting which will be hosted in June, 2016 in the beautiful island of Nevis.
